Preparing Louisiana's roads for the future

(09/01/2005)
By Karla Wall and Martin Schwartz

Louisiana's highways and byways are being revamped and widened to accommodate greater traffic loads. In the process, contractors are encountering a variety of challenges on their respective jobsites.

U.S. Highway 171 interchange: During construction of a new interchange at U.S. Highway 190 and LA 12, the contractor must maintain a malleable schedule to accommodate a railroad company and weather-related interruptions.

Bossier's Busy Airline Drive: A contractor is dealing with high temperatures and a high traffic count during the widening of Airline Drive in Bossier City. When finished, the project will stretch 6.5 mi. from Interstate 220 to Benton.
