Linda Biernacki

Linda Biernacki, president of Fire Tech Systems, was recently named the Shreveport Women's Business Council's Athena Award recipient.

The Athena Award is given to a woman for her professional accomplishments, community involvement and efforts to create leadership opportunities for women.

Biernacki opened Fire Tech Systems in 1990. By 1993 her company had grown to 17 employees with sales of $1.3 million. She purchased a 5,000-sq.-ft. building, which she remodeled in 1996 to accommodate the company's growth to $2.6 million in sales.

In 2004, with $5.4 million in sales and 45 employees, the company built a new 6,500-sq.-ft. building in Ashley Ridge Business Park.

While growing her company, Biernacki was on various design-build teams that worked on designing, constructing and scheduling projects that included Harrah's Casino and Hotel, Louisiana Boardwalk and Shoppes at Bellemeade.

She was previously selected as one of the 100 Women of the Century by Shreveport's Women's Business Council, an affiliate of the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce for the development of local businesswomen.

Daniel Zito

Daniel Zito has joined Smith Tipton Bailey Parker Architects of Baton Rouge as senior studio director. Zito is an LSU graduate with 25 years of architecture experience in New York.

He returns to Baton Rouge at a time when Louisiana and neighboring communities look toward rebuilding and redeveloping.

Zito received his bachelor's degree in architecture from LSU in 1977 and worked with a local firm on projects in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. He left for New York in 1980 to attend graduate school at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn.

During the past 12 years as senior associate at Perkins Eastman in New York, Zito has concentrated on healthcare and multi-use facilities within New York City and the surrounding areas.

"Dan's character and value systems are a natural fit for our firm," said Ken Tipton, CEO of STBP Architects.
