Louisiana Contractor's Best of 2005

Shaw Center, Louisiana State Museum receive top Judges' Awards

An eight-member panel of judges selected 22 construction and design projects as Louisiana Contractor's "Best of 2005" after a day of judging in September.

The Best of 2005 Judges' Award in Construction will be presented to The Lemoine Co. LLC of Lafayette for the construction of the Shaw Center for the Arts in Baton Rouge. In addition, the Judges' Award in Design will be given to Eskew + Dumez + Ripple of New Orleans for the design of the Louisiana State Museum in Baton Rouge.

This year's winners were chosen from 30 nominations in seven construction categories and two design categories. Nominations were accepted from the construction and design industries, at large.

Official recognition of the winners will occur during a Dec. 9 awards luncheon at Boudreaux's in Baton Rouge. The Best of '05/Outlook '06 luncheon will also feature an economic forecast by Ralph Gentile, a senior economist with McGraw-Hill Construction Research & Analytics.

The Concrete and Aggregates Association of Louisiana is sponsoring the event.

Voting for the Best of 2005 Awards was held Sept. 22 at the Holiday Inn Select in Baton Rouge by the following judges: Mike Ricca and Henry Lacinak, both with the Louisiana Dept. of Transportation and Development, Baton Rouge; Don Matherne, Percy J. Matherne Contractor, Baton Rouge; Scott Kinard, Arkel Constructors, Baton Rouge; Ray Polito, BASF, Geismar; Tom Sofranko, Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge; Robert McKinney and Michael McClure, both with the University of Louisiana - Lafayette.
