Dustin Trosclair

Dustin Trosclair, Shaw Constructors, recently received first place in the millwright competition at the Associated Builders and Contractors National Craft Championship in San Deigo, Calif.

More than 130 competitors demonstrated their skills in ABC's National Craft Championship competition during the association's national convention.

Participants, who qualified or won at the regional or chapter level, first competed in "hands-on" building projects in one of 10 craft areas and then took an intensive three-hour written exam. The participants proved their expertise in carpentry, electrical, fire sprinkler, HVAC, metal building, millwright, pipefitting, plumbing, sheet metal and welding. There was also a project demonstration in the masonry category. In addition to the competitors, local high school and community college students were invited to attend and observe the event.

The ABC National Craft Championships program was developed to help celebrate and recognize craft training in construction careers. The competition draws some of the most talented craftspeople in the nation each year and highlights the important role that craft skills training plays in the construction industry. The competition evaluates the contestants' knowledge of the craft and their skill level and talent.

Cleve Davidson, Todd Pesnell

Cleve Davidson and Todd Pesnell recently joined Jaco Construction Inc., Bossier City. Jaco, based in Clute, Texas, is a commercial roof contractor.

Davidson has more than 35 years of experience in the roofing industry and will serve as office manager. He was previously with Atlas Roof Systems Inc.

Pesnell has more than 16 years of experience in the roofing industry and will serve as sales manager. He also previously worked for Atlas.

Peter A. Wilson

Peter A. Wilson, senior vice president, Barriere Construction Co. LLC, New Orleans, was recently installed as chairman of the National Asphalt Pavement Association for 2003. The installation ceremony took place during NAPA's 48th Annual Convention in San Deigo, Calif.

Other national officers serving with Wilson include Charles F. Potts, APAC Inc., Atlanta, Ga., first vice chairman; Richard C. Moore Jr., Lehman-Roberts Co., Memphis, Tenn., second vice chairman; James H. Roberts, Granite Construction Co., Watsonville, Calif., third vice chairman; Ronald M. White, Superior Paving Corp., Gainesville, Va., secretary; and Thomas W. Hill, Oldcastle Materials Group, Washington, D. C., treasurer.

Wilson's company is a third generation, closely held family business.

His NAPA activities have included serving as a member of the Executive Committee since 1997; as state director for Louisiana, 1991-96; and as chairman of the Convention Feedback Committee. He served on the National Center for Asphalt Technology Board of Directors, 1996-98; Associate Member Council, 1998-99; and has served on numerous other NAPA committees and task forces.

He is on the Board of Trustees of the NAPA Research and Education Foundation.

Wilson is a past president of the Louisiana Asphalt Pavement Association and has held offices for the Louisiana Associated General Contractors Legislature Committee. He is a member of the Louisiana Chamber of Commerce.

Wilson obtained his bachelor's degree from Louisiana State University, and is a recent graduate of the Harvard Business School Owner/President Management Program.

Ed Kearney

Ed Kearney recently joined Wirtgen America Inc. as director of engineering, technical services. Kearney will serve as Wirtgen's in-house expert for cold recycling, foamed asphalt mix, hot recycling and asphalt paving procedures and processes.

He is a Notre Dame graduate with a master's degree in materials engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, N.Y. Kearney worked for the New York State DOT for 15 years, eight years in its Engineering Research and Development Bureau and seven years with the office of chief engineer.

His work experience also includes nine years with The Asphalt Institute as senior district engineer. During the past 13 years, he developed cold-in-place recycling, NovaChip paving, micropaving and slurry seal processes for Gorman Brothers Inc., a major contractor in the Northeast.

Myles McKemie

During its recent 30th Annual Meeting in Nashville, Tenn., the membership of the Asphalt Emulsion Manufacturers Association (AEMA) elected Myles McKemie to the office of president for the 2003-2004 term.

McKemie has been involved in the manufacture of pavement application emulsions for more than 30 years. He is a supporter of AEMA and the emulsion manufacturing industry, and previously held the offices of vice president and secretary/treasurer of the association, as well as serving as an elected director.
